Subhadra Yojana: Financial Empowerment for Women
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, 2024, the Subhadra Yojana is designed to provide financial aid to low-income women, fostering economic independence and self-reliance. The scheme promises a one-time assistance of Rs 15,000, disbursed in three equal instalments of Rs 5,000 each. The payments for this fiscal year are scheduled to be released on August 9, 2025, coinciding with Rakhi Purnima.
Eligibility Criteria for Subhadra Yojana
Women meeting the following criteria can apply for the scheme:
- Age Limit: Born between July 2, 1964, and July 1, 2003.
- Income Criteria: Family income should be less than Rs 2.5 lakh per annum.
- Employment: Open to ASHA and Anganwadi workers, as well as those employed through outsourcing agencies.
Additionally, women who will turn 21 years old by July 1, 2025, will be eligible to apply once a new application window opens. However, women above 60 years of age will be excluded from the scheme.
Key Disbursement Dates
The government has announced the following disbursement dates for the fifth phase of the scheme:
- First Instalment: March 6, 2025.
- Second Instalment: March 8, 2025 (International Women’s Day).
More than one crore women are set to receive the second instalment during a special event in Berhampur.
Odisha Government’s Commitment to Women’s Welfare
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, who also heads the Women and Child Development Department, emphasized that the state government has successfully reached its target of covering over one crore women before the second instalment release. She credited the efforts of Anganwadi workers, grassroots-level staff, and bank mitras for achieving this milestone.
With a budget allocation of Rs 55,825 crore over five years, the Subhadra Yojana stands as a testament to Odisha’s commitment to women’s financial empowerment.
