During a press meet, CM Sarma stated that the government will conduct another round of geotagging to include all deserving beneficiaries. This step will help in eliminating discrepancies and ensuring that no eligible individual is left out of the PMAY scheme.

PMAY Beneficiaries in Assam

  • Total beneficiaries: Approximately 30 lakh individuals have been included under PMAY in Assam.
  • Upcoming beneficiaries:
    • 19 March 2025: Around 3.8 lakh beneficiaries will receive housing benefits.
    • Later months: Another 3.8 lakh beneficiaries will be covered.

Role of Local Women in the Geotagging Process

For the first time in India, government officials will not be directly involved in the geotagging process. Instead, local women associated with self-help groups (SHGs) will carry out the geotagging. To maintain fairness, these women will be chosen from nearby villages rather than the same locality.

CM Sarma emphasized that this measure will enhance transparency and provide opportunities for local women to participate in governance initiatives. Government officials will only review the final lists prepared by the women-led teams.

Self-Geotagging Option for Missed Beneficiaries

If any eligible person is missed during the geotagging process, they can either self-geotag their location or seek assistance from others. This ensures that every deserving household has a chance to benefit from the scheme without bureaucratic hurdles.

Approval Process for Final Beneficiary List

Following the geotagging process, the final list of beneficiaries will undergo multiple approval stages:

  1. Gram Sabha – Local community members will review and approve the list.
  2. Block-Level Committee – Officials will ensure accuracy at the block level.
  3. District-Level Committee – The final review will be conducted with the participation of the district’s guardian minister.
  4. Central Government Approval – The verified list will be forwarded to the central government for the final nod.

What is Geotagging?

Geotagging is a process of adding geographic coordinates (such as latitude and longitude) to media like photos, videos, and online data. It ensures precise location tracking, making it useful for government schemes, digital mapping, and beneficiary verification.
